KT Studio Genie Launches Genie Shorts Vertical Micro-Drama Channel On Amagi

KT Studio Genie has launched Genie Shorts, a linear connected TV channel of vertical Korean micro-dramas powered by Amagi, after moving its 16 FAST channels to Amagi's cloud platform with no downtime. The content subsidiary of KT Corporation announced the move on 26 October.
- Channel: Genie Shorts, 90 to 120-second Korean micro-drama episodes
- Format: Native 9:16 vertical video on 16:9 TV screens
- Launch: LG Channels Korea, August 2026, with 73 titles
- Platform partner: Amagi, cloud playout for 16 FAST channels
How Genie Shorts Works
Genie Shorts is built natively for 9:16 vertical micro-dramas and runs as a linear channel for connected TV. The vertical video plays at full fidelity on standard 16:9 screens, with a dedicated vertical graphics layer carrying channel branding and programme information.
After its August launch on LG Channels Korea, the channel expanded to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and the UAE, with Samsung TV Plus in Europe planned next.
The Move to Amagi
KT Studio Genie moved 16 linear FAST channels, including its Korean lineup and its international K-Movie and K-Drama feeds, from its previous playout vendor to Amagi in batches, with no disruption for viewers. Its channels are distributed on Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels and Plex across Korea, the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, with expansion planned into North America, Europe, India and Latin America.
"Scalability was the deciding factor. Amagi's single playout architecture means we incur no additional playout cost when we expand to a new platform," said Wonrak Choi, head of channel business team, KT Studio Genie. "In Q1 of this year, our FAST revenue already exceeded our full-year revenue for the previous year, with an operating profit, and that did a lot to build internal alignment behind this move."
What Amagi Said
"KT Studio Genie is not just migrating the channels to the cloud, it's creating a new model for bringing Korean short-form stories to global audiences," said Jay Ganesan, SVP, APAC, Amagi. "Genie Shorts combine a native vertical viewing experience with non-disruptive monetization while Amagi's scalable architecture enables KTSG to expand globally."
Micro-dramas have grown fast on mobile apps. Genie Shorts takes the format to the living room TV, where FAST channels earn from ads. Details are in the announcement coverage.
