JioHotstar Launches StreamToCart Ads With Instamart

JioHotstar has rolled out StreamToCart Ads, a shoppable in-stream ad format powered by Swiggy's Instamart that lets viewers add products to their cart during an ad break without pausing what they are watching. JioStar announced the format on 27 October.
- Platform: JioHotstar
- Commerce partner: Instamart
- Format: Native overlay for browsing and adding to cart, with playback running
- Target categories: FMCG, packaged foods, beauty and consumer electronics
How StreamToCart Ads Work
When an ad plays, viewers interact with a native overlay, browse products and build a cart inside the streaming window, without pausing playback or exiting the player. There is no switch to another app between seeing the ad and adding the product.
For advertisers, the pitch is measurement. Instead of proxy metrics such as completion rates and click-through rates, marketers can track the path from an impression to a real-time add-to-cart event. The format builds on the commerce signal-led advertising JioHotstar launched with Instamart as its first partner in April.
The Numbers JioHotstar Cited
JioHotstar pointed to a Datum Intelligence study that found half of online shoppers order at least five times a month through quick-commerce platforms. Its own data shows 83% of viewers describe themselves as active shopping enthusiasts, and 60% of conversions driven by the platform come from new and dormant shoppers. JioHotstar says it has more than 500 million monthly average users.
What JioStar Said
"With StreamToCart Ads, we are transforming the ad break into an opportunity for viewers to discover and purchase products seamlessly within their viewing experience," said Bhaskar Ramesh, head, entertainment sales, digital at JioStar. "This brings brand storytelling and measurable business outcomes closer than ever, enabling marketers to combine the scale and impact of premium content with the immediacy of commerce, all within a single screen."
What Is Still Unclear
JioStar has not named launch advertisers, pricing or which devices carry the format, including whether it runs on connected TV. Those details will decide how far the format goes beyond quick-commerce staples.
