Instagram has launched a desktop version of Edits, its video editing app, for macOS. It is built for more complex projects, with a larger workspace and more precise controls. Instagram says more than 50 million people have used Edits since launch.

  • Company: Instagram
  • Product: Edits desktop app
  • Platform: macOS
  • Download: edits.com/desktop

What The Edits Desktop App Does

The editor has a multi-track timeline, keyframes for transitions and audio waveforms for precise cuts. Colour grading tools include colour wheels, curves and log conversions, and users can import their own LUTs and fonts. It includes Instagram's licensed and royalty-free music, hundreds of sound and video effects, and automatic captions in several languages.

Audio and text styles saved in the mobile app carry over, and keyboard shortcuts can be customised or brought across from other editing software.

Publishing And Exports

Creators can publish straight to Instagram from the desktop, with tagging, location and trial reels. The app supports horizontal and vertical formats and 4K exports without watermarks, so videos can go to other platforms too.

AI Agents Through MCP

Instagram has added support for connecting AI agents to the desktop editor through the Model Context Protocol, so they can help with editing projects.

What Is Next

Instagram says it will ship weekly updates based on creator feedback and is working on editing projects across desktop and mobile. Edits recently added a multi-slide carousel canvas.

The app is available from Edits for desktop.
