BKT Extends Big Bash League Golden Cap Partnership Through 2028-29

Balkrishna Industries (BKT) will continue as naming rights partner of the Golden Cap awards in the Big Bash League for another three years, extending its partnership with Cricket Australia through the 2028-29 season. BKT has been an official league partner since 2018, and the extension takes the association beyond a decade, making it one of the longest-running commercial partnerships in the competition's history.

- Extended through: the 2028-29 season
Owning an Award Rather Than a Board
The structure here is worth noting because it is not conventional sponsorship. BKT is not buying perimeter boards or a shirt front. It has attached its name to the two awards that get mentioned every time a commentator discusses who is leading the run-scoring or wicket-taking charts, across both the men's and women's competitions.
That produces a different kind of exposure. Signage is seen; an award name is spoken, and it is spoken by broadcasters rather than by the brand. It also compounds, because the longer the naming holds, the more the award and the name fuse in the audience's memory. Eleven seasons is long enough for that to happen.
Why an Indian Tyre Maker Is in Australian Cricket
Rajiv Poddar, joint managing director at BKT, put the rationale in market terms rather than sporting ones, saying the partnership has continued to evolve since 2018, that Australia remains a strategic market for BKT, and that cricket is one of the country's most popular and passionately followed sports.
Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia's general manager for Big Bash Leagues, said the Golden Bat and Golden Arm caps have long been popular with players and fans as a way to celebrate batting and bowling across the BBL and WBBL, and that BKT Big Bash Tipping gives fans another way to engage with the leagues.
For a manufacturer selling agricultural and industrial tyres, cricket sponsorship is a business-audience play in a market where the buyers are reachable through the sport. The inclusion of the women's competition on equal footing, rather than as an add-on, is the part that has aged well over eight years.
