Pavitra Gupta, joining InMobi as vice president and general manager for India after three years investing at RTP Global

Pavitra Gupta has joined InMobi as vice president and general manager for India, bringing more than 15 years across consumer internet, e-commerce, product management, business growth and early-stage investing.

What Pavitra Gupta Did On The Investing Side

At RTP Global she focused on early-stage investments in India across consumer brands, consumer technology, B2B commerce, fintech and climate tech. Her portfolio included FirstClub, Flam, Ozi, Outzidr, Tuco Kids, Zyod and &Done, and she served as a board observer for Freo, GoKwik and Varaha. She also worked with founders on scaling businesses, product and growth, and set up the firm's marketing function in India.

Three years spent looking at a wide slice of Indian consumer and commerce companies from the cap table is a specific kind of preparation for running a country business. It is a view of what actually works across dozens of companies rather than one, which is harder to acquire from inside a single operator.

The Operating Record Behind It

At Walmart Global Tech India she led competitive intelligence and machine learning products for Walmart Global, plus an assortment excellence product for Walmart Fulfilled Services, managing a global team of eight product managers.

The Flipkart years are the deepest part of the record. Over six years she progressed to director and head of business unit, running the Home business, with ownership of portfolio strategy, gross merchandise value, profitability, customer metrics, marketing strategy and the on-site customer experience. She also launched and scaled Flipkart's Home private label. Before all of that came six years with the Tata Group through the Tata Administrative Services programme, in roles including product marketing manager at Tata Power Solar Systems, buying and merchandising manager for Helios at Titan, and business development manager at TCS.
