Malabar Gold & Diamonds Signs MS Dhoni as Brand Ambassador

MS Dhoni, brand ambassador for Malabar Gold & Diamonds

Malabar Gold & Diamonds has appointed cricketer MS Dhoni as its brand ambassador in a long-term association built around the retailer's The Responsible Jeweller positioning. The signing will be supported by an integrated consumer campaign running across the brand's stores globally.

  • Brand: Malabar Gold & Diamonds, part of Malabar Group
  • Ambassador: MS Dhoni
  • Nature: long-term association
  • Positioning: The Responsible Jeweller
  • Campaign mediums: television, print, digital, social media, radio, cinema, out-of-home, retail experiences and owned platforms
  • Reach: the campaign runs across the brand's stores globally
  • Themes covered: ethical sourcing, quality, pricing, manufacturing and customer policies

Trust Is the Product in Jewellery

The positioning explains the casting. Indian jewellery retail competes on a specific anxiety, which is whether the buyer is getting what they are paying for, in purity, in weight and in price.

That makes ethical sourcing, transparent pricing and clear customer policies genuine commercial differentiators rather than corporate hygiene, and it makes ambassador choice unusually consequential. The face has to carry credibility rather than glamour.

M.P. Ahammad, Chairman of Malabar Group, framed it in those terms, saying consumers today expect more from the brands they choose and that beyond exceptional products they seek transparency, authenticity and confidence in every purchase. He said the jewellery industry has a responsibility to meet those expectations through ethical business practices, uncompromising quality and a customer-first approach, and that the belief has shaped the business for over 33 years.

On Dhoni specifically, Ahammad said he has earned the respect and trust of millions through his integrity, discipline and consistency, qualities that resonate with the company's own values.

The Ambassador's Own Framing

Dhoni's response stayed on the same ground rather than the product. He said that throughout his career he has believed trust is earned through actions and consistency.

Whatever one makes of ambassador deals generally, the internal logic here is tight. Dhoni's public reputation rests almost entirely on temperament and reliability rather than flair, and those are precisely the attributes a jewellery retailer selling on transparency would want borrowed.

The global store rollout is the other notable element. Malabar operates well beyond India, and running one campaign across that footprint suggests the Responsible Jeweller platform is being treated as a group-level position rather than an India-market message.
