mPokket Signs Naveen Polishetty for a Campaign Built on His Own Rejections

Digital lending platform mPokket has appointed Telugu actor Naveen Polishetty as brand ambassador, launching alongside a campaign titled mPokket Ante Non-Stop Growth. Created by Social Panga, the work comprises a 35-second master film and two 20-second films, and it is built on a fact from Polishetty's own career: more than a thousand auditions and repeated rejection before he established himself in Telugu cinema.

  • Brand: mPokket, digital lending
  • Ambassador: Naveen Polishetty
  • Campaign: mPokket Ante Non-Stop Growth
  • Agency: Social Panga
  • Assets: one 35-second master film and two 20-second films
  • Rollout: digital platforms, focused on Telugu-speaking markets
  • Premise: people should not have to keep proving themselves before getting access to opportunity

The Ambassador Is the Argument

Celebrity endorsement in Indian financial services usually runs on borrowed trust. A recognisable face stands beside a product, and the familiarity is meant to transfer.

This does something narrower and more defensible. The reason Polishetty is in the film is not that he is famous in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, though he is. It is that his biography contains the exact grievance the product claims to address: a long period of demonstrable capability that the system kept asking him to re-prove.

Polishetty made the connection himself, saying that when he heard what mPokket stands for it felt personal, that he spent years giving auditions and proving himself over and over, and that he knows first-hand what it feels like when the system is not built for people like him. Most young Indians, he said, are in the same boat, talented and hardworking and ambitious, but finding doors close when they need credit to take the next step.

Gaurav Jalan, founder and CEO of mPokket, drew the parallel more bluntly, saying Naveen spent years delivering while the industry kept making him prove it again, and that the gap between what someone is capable of and what the world is willing to back is exactly what mPokket exists to close. He added that the campaign is not a metaphor and is the most honest thing the company has said about why it was built.

The Numbers Behind the Claim

Jalan put company figures behind the positioning, saying 6.5 million Indians have taken their first-ever formal loan through the platform, and that nearly 79 per cent of those new-to-credit borrowers were under the age of 25 when they took that first loan. Both are company-supplied figures rather than audited ones.

The age split is the more interesting of the two, because it describes the actual structural problem. A 22-year-old with income but no credit history is invisible to conventional scoring, not because they are a poor risk but because the system has no record to assess. That is a thin-file problem rather than a creditworthiness one, and it is the gap the campaign's audition metaphor is reaching for.

Why Telugu, and Why Digital Only

The decision to focus the rollout on Telugu-speaking markets rather than launching nationally is a sharper piece of planning than it first appears. Polishetty's equity is concentrated and deep rather than broad, and the campaign's premise depends on the audience already knowing his backstory. In markets where he is simply a famous face, the film would land as an ordinary endorsement and the whole argument would collapse.
