The Indian Superbike League has named John Abraham as strategic advisor and released a promo film introducing the league, which it describes as India's first superbike league.
- Property: Indian Superbike League (ISBL)
- Sanction: Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India
- Format: Franchise-based, with two Pro categories, Amateur, Female Riders and Rookie classes
- Strategic advisor: John Abraham
What The Indian Superbike League Is
A franchise-based championship sanctioned by the FMSCI, built as a sport-meets-entertainment property around performance, technology, personalities and India's motorcycle culture. The league says it wants to create a structured competitive environment for riders and opportunities for teams, technical staff, brands and creators. Season dates, venues and the number of franchises have not yet been announced.
Why John Abraham
"Motorcycles have always been a deeply personal passion. Being a sports team owner has also taught me what it takes to turn belief into sustained commitment. ISBL brings those two parts of my life together," said Abraham. "I want to help young Indian riders get the opportunities they deserve and share the thrill of motorcycle racing with a whole new generation of fans. It's time to Get India Racing."
The 53-second film, "John Abraham Introduces ISBL", uses the lines "Earn Every Corner" and "Get India Racing", and is set in a room full of trophies and sporting memorabilia.
The People Behind It
"I come from a family of racers, so building ISBL is deeply personal," said Pranav Bakre, CEO, Indian Superbike League, adding that music and culture will bring more people into racing's world.
"Our ambition is to build a premium, commercially sustainable league that fans return to and partners want to grow with, season after season," said Avi Jain, managing director, Dhuleva Group, and anchor investor in ISBL. A celebrity advisor and a launch film before a single race tell sponsors the league intends to sell itself as entertainment, not only as sport.
