Anthropic To Make Claude Available With In-Country Inference In India Via Amazon Bedrock

Anthropic will make Claude available with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock in the coming weeks.
- What changes: Requests sent through the India endpoint will be processed on servers located in India
- Aimed at: Regulated sectors, including banking, insurance, telecommunications and government
- Context: Follows the opening of Anthropic's Bengaluru office in February 2026
- Reported enterprise users: Axis Bank, National Payments Corporation of India, IndusInd Bank, Godrej Industries
Data Localisation For Regulated Sectors
The move is aimed at organisations where data localisation, audit trails and access controls are important requirements for deploying AI systems, particularly in banking, insurance, telecommunications and government. Claude deployments through Amazon Bedrock carry the audit trails and access controls that risk and compliance teams typically require before an AI system reaches production.
The announcement follows the opening of Anthropic's Bengaluru office in February 2026, with the company's India team expanding to support enterprises, digital-native companies and startups building on Claude.
Early Adopters Across Banking And Telecom
Among the enterprise users already reported to be building on Claude in India: Axis Bank is using it for engineering and employee productivity, the National Payments Corporation of India is developing its agentic AI platform on the model, IndusInd Bank is building an AI-enabled internal knowledge platform, and Godrej Industries is using Claude for application development, business analysis and knowledge work. In-country inference removes one of the standing objections regulated enterprises have raised about routing sensitive data through servers outside India.
