Swiggy has promoted Shashank Kumar to director of monetisation, from October 2026, after two years as general manager of ads strategy. Kumar announced the promotion on LinkedIn.

  • Company: Swiggy
  • New role: Director of monetisation
  • Previous role: General manager, ads strategy, October 2024 to September 2026
  • With Swiggy since: April 2022

Shashank Kumar at Swiggy

Kumar joined Swiggy in April 2022 as manager, ads strategy. He became senior manager, ads strategy in October 2023 and general manager in October 2024, when he took charge of advertising monetisation and strategy across the company's key and national accounts.

In his post, he thanked Sidharth Bhakoo and Ajit Panigrahi for their guidance and mentorship, and credited his team, including Akash Kumar K, Lahareesh Reddy and Anupam Kumar. Kumar has spent more than four years at Swiggy, all of it in the ads business. He called the promotion a collective achievement and said he was excited to scale the business and keep innovating for Swiggy's users.

Before Swiggy

Kumar was marketing manager, retail and e-commerce at Tata Steel from May 2021 to April 2022. He began his career in sales and marketing at Reliance Industries, from July 2018 to June 2019. He holds an MBA from IIM Raipur, completed in 2021.

Why It Matters

Advertising has become a meaningful revenue line for Indian food delivery and quick-commerce platforms, which sell brands sponsored listings, banners and search placements in front of customers who are ready to order. Monetisation roles sit at the centre of that business, balancing what advertisers pay for against what users see.

Swiggy already has another director-level monetisation lead: it promoted Rishabh Tak to director, monetisation in June. How the two remits are split has not been disclosed, and no reporting line has been made public for Kumar. His post did not detail the scope of the new role.
