Sebamed Buys Into ChatGPT Advertising With WPP Media

Sebamed is among the early brands in India exploring AI-led advertising, through a ChatGPT advertising initiative activated in partnership with WPP Media.

  • Brand: Sebamed, marketed in India by USV Pvt Ltd
  • Partner: WPP Media
  • Environment: ChatGPT, targeting moments of active skincare discovery
  • Product featured: Sebamed Gentle Facial Cleanser for oily and combination skin
  • Proposition anchored on: the brand's pH 5.5 claim and cleansing without compromising the skin barrier

What Sebamed Is Actually Buying

Placement inside conversations rather than around them. The activation is designed to connect the brand with consumers as they ask questions, explore skincare options and look for solutions on ChatGPT, aligning the product with conversations about oily skin, cleansing, dryness and skin health.

The distinction the brand is drawing is between advertising around consumers through conventional placements and appearing within an environment where they are actively looking for an answer. That is the same intent argument that built search advertising, applied to a conversational surface, and it is worth watching precisely because nobody yet knows whether it behaves the same way at scale.

Why Both Sides Are Calling It An Experiment

Pranay Rao, vice president of marketing at USV Pvt Ltd, was careful about the framing. "As consumers increasingly turn to AI-led platforms for answers, ChatGPT presents an opportunity to bring our commitment to skin-friendly cleansing into relevant conversations," he said. "This activation allows us to engage consumers at a moment of active consideration, with a message that is contextual, useful and rooted in our promise of cleansing without compromising the skin's protective barrier."

Vishal Shah, senior vice president for client solutions in India at WPP Media, put it in media planning terms. "AI is reshaping how consumers discover information, evaluate options and make decisions. At WPP Media, our focus is on turning this shift into practical, solution-oriented media opportunities for brands," he said. The agency describes the approach as context-led, exploring how brands can appear within topics consumers are actively researching and creating a pathway from discovery and consideration to action. For a category as advice-driven as skincare, where consumers routinely ask questions before buying, it is a reasonable place to run the first test. More ad tech.
