Rajiv Rajaram Named Head Of Content At Sun NXT

Rajiv Rajaram, appointed head of content at Sun NXT after two and a half years leading Tamil content for Sony LIV

Rajiv Rajaram has been appointed head of content at Sun NXT, bringing 21 years across streaming, digital, film, radio, television and advertising to Sun TV Network's streaming arm.

  • Role: head of content, Sun NXT
  • Joins from: Sony Pictures Networks India, where he was head of content, Tamil, for Sony LIV from March 2023
  • Earlier: Culture Machine Studios, later Rainshine Studios, rising to vice president of content and originals over nearly eight years
  • Co-founder: Put Chutney and Stray Factory
  • Also: voice artist on more than 3,500 commercials, and lead in Spotify's first Tamil original series

What Rajiv Rajaram Built Before Sun NXT

A digital media brand from nothing. As co-founder of Put Chutney he created one of Tamil digital media's most recognisable names, and the formats came with it: South Indianized Trailers, which passed 80 million views, and Laughter Games, YouTube's branded web series format. He also co-founded Stray Factory, a Chennai based collaborative entertainment venture whose live shows toured 24 cities across six countries.

The commissioning record sits alongside that. At Culture Machine Studios, later Rainshine Studios, he rose from senior creative director, south, to vice president of content and originals across nearly eight years, a stretch that produced Meme Boys, Sony LIV's first Tamil original series. He then spent two and a half years at Sony LIV itself as head of content, Tamil, steering the regional slate from March 2023 to August 2025.

Why Sun TV Network Hired A Performer As Well As An Executive

Because the performing is not incidental to the job. Rajaram is a fourth generation radio professional and voice artist with more than 3,500 commercials to his name, and he starred in Detective Mathimaran, Spotify's first Tamil original series. He has screenwriting credits on bilingual films including Moone Moonu Varthai and wrote dialogue for Yash Raj Films' first Tamil production, Aaha Kalyanam.

That combination is rarer than it sounds. Most streaming content heads have either commissioned or created, and the ones who have done both read a pitch differently, because they know what a script costs to make and what an audience will forgive. Sun NXT has been a strong regional player for years, but competition in the south is sharpening, and the platforms winning there are the ones commissioning original Tamil work rather than licensing it.
