Story TV Expands Into South India Across Four Languages

Story TV, the microdrama platform from Eloelo Group, is expanding into South India with original vertical series in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. The platform plans to produce more than 1,000 original South Indian microdramas by March 2027.
- Platform: Story TV, from Eloelo Group
- Format: original vertical microdramas
- Languages: Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam
- Target: more than 1,000 original titles by March 2027
- Top southern cities by consumption: Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi
- Reported engagement: users across the southern states spend an average of 95 minutes daily on the platform
- Genres: romance, family drama, thriller, revenge, comedy and emotional stories
Regional Talent, Not Dubbed Content
The expansion is built on original intellectual property developed with writers, filmmakers and actors from the southern states, rather than dubbing existing Hindi or English microdramas into regional languages.
GSN Aditya, Chief Operating Officer of Story TV, framed the format's appeal around a shift in viewing behaviour, saying entertainment has moved to the mobile screen and viewing habits have moved with it. Audiences today, he said, want stories they can binge instantly and see themselves in, in their own language, culture and world, and microdrama answers both, calling it the most exciting format in Indian storytelling right now and one that has opened opportunities for the entire creative talent community to tell richer, more diverse local stories.
Why South India Specifically
Aditya was direct about why the region is central to the platform's plans, saying South India is home to some of India's strongest storytelling traditions and most passionate audiences. The company's focus, he said, is to build a local creative talent community, invest in original stories across languages, and raise the quality of premium vertical storytelling together, adding that what gets built there will not only strengthen the platform's leadership in the region but also become the blueprint for taking the category to other markets across the country.
The reported 95-minute average daily consumption in the southern states, ahead of the content investment being announced, suggests the region was already a strong engagement market for the platform before this formal expansion, making the move as much a response to existing demand as a new market entry.
The genre slate spans romance, family drama, thriller, revenge, comedy and emotional stories, with Kannada and Malayalam originals set to expand as the regional catalogue grows, behind an initial push likely weighted toward Telugu and Tamil given those languages' larger existing audiences.
