What Karan Yadav Is Being Asked To Do
Build the office that runs the league. His mandate covers the ISL's overall strategy and commercial direction, its relationships with clubs, broadcasters and sponsors, and a League Office set up for the long-term growth and sustainability of the competition. In a club-led structure, that means aligning owners with different budgets and different priorities on commercial strategy, partnerships, broadcast and fan engagement.
Yadav described the moment as an important new chapter for the league. Its focus, he said, will be a strong League Office, a stronger commercial and broadcast proposition, a deeper connection with fans, and an environment where clubs can grow sustainably.
Why A Commercial Operator Fits The Job
The ISL's problem has never been the football on the pitch alone; it has been the money around it. A league run by its clubs has to sell broadcast rights and sponsorships well enough that the clubs can build sustainable businesses, and that is a commercial job before it is a sporting one.
Yadav's record is on that side of sport. At JSW Sports he worked on the commercial strategy for Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, managed JSW's kitting partnership with Team India at the 2024 Paris Olympics and helped launch the Neeraj Chopra Classic in 2025. At Wavemaker and ACKO he saw sport from the other side of the table, as a buyer of sponsorship for brands.
The Football Background
The appointment also closes a loop. Yadav started in the game as a writer, building TheHardTackle.com into a publication with more than 50 writers and 10 editors. For a league that needs fans as much as it needs sponsors, a chief executive who began as one is not a bad place to start.
