Wipro's Giffy Dishwash Gel Launches a Cinematic New TVC

A frame from Giffy's new cinematic dishwash TVC

Giffy, the dishwashing gel brand from Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, has launched a cinematic new television commercial, adopting a scale and treatment more associated with big-budget film than with the demonstration-led advertising the dish-cleaning category usually runs.

  • Brand: Giffy, dishwashing gel
  • Company: Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting
  • Format: new TVC, cinematic treatment

Cinematic Treatment in a Demonstration Category

Dishwashing advertising in India has traditionally been built on product demonstration, the greasy utensil, the visible shine, the side-by-side comparison, because the purchase decision is functional and the differences between brands are narrow. Choosing an epic, film-style treatment instead is a bid to buy attention through entertainment value rather than proof, betting that being memorable does more for a low-involvement household purchase than one more efficacy demo.

Fighting for Share in a Fragmented Home-Care Market

The dishwash segment in India is crowded with entrenched national brands, regional players and private-label options competing largely on price and format, from bars to liquids to gels. For a gel brand in that context, distinctive advertising is one of the few levers that does not require winning on price, and a cinematic execution gives Giffy something to be recognised for at a point where the category's advertising conventions are close to interchangeable.
