Abhik Banerjee Joins Wavemaker India To Lead The West Region

Abhik Banerjee has joined Wavemaker India to lead its West region, arriving from Madison Media where he was chief operating officer.
- Role: West region lead, Wavemaker India
- Joins from: Madison Media, as chief operating officer
- Experience: more than two decades across media and marketing
- Sectors: FMCG, telecom, BFSI, consumer durables, paints, pharma and D2C
What Abhik Banerjee Will Do At Wavemaker
He will work with the agency's clients, teams and leadership in the region, on strengthening partnerships, finding business opportunities and driving growth. West is the market where most of India's largest advertisers keep their marketing leadership, so a regional lead there is closer to a business head than the title suggests.
The Madison Media Years
As chief operating officer he led several business units with end-to-end P&L responsibility, and built integrated teams across traditional and digital media, out of home, activation, public relations and media buying. That last part is the relevant bit: integration across those disciplines is what a holding company network sells and what most regional leads inherit rather than build.
Why Both Sides Of The Table Matters Here
Banerjee has worked agency side and client side, across a category list wide enough to be unusual: FMCG, telecom, banking and insurance, consumer durables, paints, pharma and newer direct-to-consumer brands. Paints and pharma in the same career is not a common combination, and it is the sort of spread that decides whether a pitch conversation with an unfamiliar category starts from first principles or from experience.
What A Regional Lead Actually Carries
Wavemaker sits inside WPP Media, which makes a regional role a different proposition from the same title at an independent. A network agency's West lead inherits global alignments decided elsewhere and is measured on what happens to them locally, so the job is as much about holding existing relationships as winning new ones.
Wavemaker India has framed the appointment as an addition to its regional leadership while the agency continues to concentrate on client partnerships and growth across the network. More appointments.
