Sukumar Hebbar, incoming Managing Director and CEO of Tata Projects

Tata Projects has appointed Sukumar Hebbar as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.

  • Incoming: Sukumar Hebbar
  • Role: Managing Director and CEO, Tata Projects
  • Succeeds: Vinayak Pai, who led the company since 2022
  • Before Tata Projects: Senior Vice President and IC Head, Transportation Infrastructure, Larsen & Toubro
  • Experience: More than 35 years in infrastructure and construction

Three Decades At L&T's Biggest Builds

Hebbar joins Tata Projects after more than three decades at Larsen & Toubro, where he most recently headed the Transportation Infrastructure business, overseeing its roads, bridges, formation and railways portfolios. During his tenure at L&T, he was associated with projects including the Ram Mandir, Navi Mumbai International Airport and Kartavya Bhawan, alongside experience in healthcare infrastructure and data centres.

Commenting on his appointment, Hebbar said Tata Projects had built a formidable reputation as India's technology-led infrastructure builder, and that he was excited to join at a time when the sector is central to the country's growth story. He added that his priority would be executing complex infrastructure projects while expanding the company's capabilities in data centres and sustainable energy, areas where he sees significant headroom for Tata Projects to lead.

An Architect By Training

Hebbar holds a degree in architecture from Mysore University and has completed INSEAD's Advanced Management Programme in Organisational Leadership. He began his career as a graduate engineer trainee in 1990, building toward a mandate that now spans infrastructure, data centres, urban development and industrial EPC segments at Tata Projects.
