- Appointee: Karan Bhatia
- New role: Director, AGPS, Asahi Group
- Previous tenure: nine years across Sanofi and Opella
- At Sanofi: joined in 2017 to manage marketing spend as a category, later helping carve out the consumer healthcare business to form Opella
- Also built: GBS and GCC teams across multiple regions
- Earlier: Godrej and UTV
Nine Years, One Business Transformation
Bhatia's own account of the tenure traces a single long arc rather than a series of separate jobs. Writing on LinkedIn, he said he had closed a professional chapter of nine years with Sanofi and Opella, joining Sanofi in 2017 to manage marketing spend as a category before later helping carve out the company's consumer healthcare business to form Opella. Along the way, he said, he built, scaled and nurtured GBS and GCC teams in different parts of the world, working across cultures, strategies and transformation, calling it a journey of learning, growth and meeting people.
That is a description of someone who was present for a genuine corporate restructuring rather than someone who simply held a series of titles. Opella was created as Sanofi's standalone consumer healthcare business, and being part of carving it out of a larger pharmaceutical company is a materially different experience from joining an already-independent business.
His earlier career included stints at Godrej and UTV, giving him exposure to both consumer goods and media before the pharma and consumer healthcare years.
