Gaurav Singh Chauhan Steps Down From Google After Nearly 13 Years

Gaurav Singh Chauhan, formerly Head of Events and Experiences at Google India

Gaurav Singh Chauhan has departed Google after almost 13 years, most recently serving as Head of Events and Experiences at Google India. He announced the move on LinkedIn, describing a run that began as a project-based engagement in October 2013 and became a full-time role leading the function.

  • Outgoing: Gaurav Singh Chauhan
  • Role: Head of Events and Experiences, Google India
  • Tenure: almost 13 years, beginning as a project engagement in October 2013
  • Announced via: LinkedIn
  • Audiences covered: students, developers, creators, media, advertisers, bureaucrats, policymakers and end users
  • Previously: Account Director at Kettle Communications, working with Yahoo! India, Nestle, Cairn India and HCL
  • Earlier: Senior Manager, Brand Communication at Milestone Brandcom, where he helped establish its experiential marketing business
  • Next role: not yet announced

Thirteen Years in One Function

Chauhan described the arc himself, writing that what started as a project-based engagement in October 2013 quietly turned into a full-time, career-defining role leading Events and Experiences for Google India.

He said he had the privilege of building the ecosystem from the ground up, creating experiences for varied user cohorts including students, developers, creators, media, advertisers, bureaucrats, policymakers and end users. He added that he is proud of the work but prouder of the industry it helped shape, and grateful for colleagues, leaders, partners, vendors and friendships.

That list of audiences is the substance of the job. Running events for developers, for policymakers and for advertisers means operating three fundamentally different formats under one brand, with different success measures for each. Developer events are judged on technical depth and attendance quality, policy engagement on access and tone, advertiser events on pipeline.

Why the Length Is the Story

Nearly 13 years in a single function at a single company is unusual anywhere in marketing, and rarer still in experiential, which tends to have high churn and agency-side career paths.

Building the function from scratch also means Google India's event practice largely reflects one person's decisions about what it should be. That is meaningful continuity to replace.

His background before Google was agency-side experiential: Account Director at Kettle Communications on Yahoo! India, Nestle, Cairn India and HCL, and before that Senior Manager for Brand Communication at Milestone Brandcom, where he helped set up its experiential business.

Chauhan has not said where he is going, writing only that as the chapter closes he is excited for what comes next, with more to follow.
