DeafCareers Launches Pledge To Hire, Asking Companies To Open Their Doors To Deaf Talent

What The DeafCareers Pledge Asks For
A step past awareness. The pledge asks employers to commit to considering skilled Deaf candidates for suitable roles across their businesses, and to take the conversation into their own HR teams. DeafCareers.in connects Deaf candidates with employers and supports them with skill workshops, interview preparation and workplace-readiness programmes, so a company that signs up has somewhere to start.
Sahil Chopra, founder and director of DeafCareers, said awareness is important but does not change lives on its own; employment does. The pledge, he said, is a simple invitation to companies to look beyond the barriers and look at the talent, because there are skilled, committed and capable people in the Deaf community ready to build careers.
Why It Is Framed As A Pledge
Diversity and inclusion commitments are common in corporate India; hiring numbers behind them are less so. A pledge is a small, public promise, and the campaign line is written to make the gap between talking and hiring hard to ignore. Chopra put the arithmetic plainly: one company hiring one person creates one career, and many companies doing it create a much bigger change.
The timing is deliberate. The World Federation of the Deaf observes International Week of Deaf People from 21 to 27 September, and DeafCareers says it does not want this to be just another awareness week but a starting point for conversations between HR teams and Deaf talent.
