Kiran Desai Moves On From Netflix India After Seven Years
Kiran Desai, Vice President and India General Counsel at Netflix, has decided to move on after seven years with the streaming company.

Building A Function From The Ground Up
Desai announced his departure through a LinkedIn post, reflecting on building and leading Netflix India's Legal & Business Affairs function from the ground up over seven years, a period in which he worked closely with colleagues across the globe and partnered with filmmakers and storytellers as India's streaming industry went through rapid growth. In his most recent role, he led Business Affairs, Public Policy and Regulatory, and Product and Corporate Legal for the streamer in India.
He wrote that after an incredible seven years at Netflix, he had decided it was time to turn the page and step into a new chapter, thanking everyone who trusted him along the way and his team, and saying he was energised about what came next.
Seven Years Across India's Streaming Boom
Desai joined Netflix in July 2019 as Director, Business and Legal Affairs, and was promoted to Senior Director and India General Counsel in April 2022 as the company's local content slate and regulatory footprint expanded. He holds an LL.B from Government Law College, Mumbai, and an LL.M from Georgetown University Law Center, and was Managing Partner at Desai & Partners, a Mumbai-based media and entertainment law firm, before joining Netflix.
