Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, President and CEO of Honda Cars India

Toshiyuki Yanagisawa has been named President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), with Honda Motor Co., Ltd. confirming the appointment with effect from October 1, 2026.

  • Incoming: Toshiyuki Yanagisawa
  • New role: President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL)
  • Effective: October 1, 2026
  • Current roles: Operating Executive, Honda; Head, India Strategic Development Office; CEO, Honda Digital Innovation India Pvt. Ltd. (HDII)
  • Outgoing: Takashi Nakajima, moving to regional headquarters at Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. after completing his India tenure

A Combined Charge

Yanagisawa moves into the top job at HCIL from a role that already had him closely tied to Honda's India operations. He is currently an Operating Executive at Honda and heads the company's India Strategic Development Office, while also serving as CEO of Honda Digital Innovation India Pvt. Ltd. (HDII). In his new capacity, he will not give up the HDII charge, instead jointly leading both HCIL and HDII, pointing to Honda's intent to run its India car business and its digital innovation arm under a single point of leadership.

Not a New Market for Him

Yanagisawa's global assignments at Honda have already included a stint in India at HCIL, giving him direct prior exposure to the country's automotive market, its consumers and its business environment before this appointment. He takes over from Takashi Nakajima, the current President & CEO of HCIL, who will move on to Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd.'s regional headquarters once his India tenure wraps up.
