YouTube is updating its Partner Program eligibility guidelines, raising the bar for new creators seeking ad monetization, effective 1 February 2027.
- New long-form threshold: 8,000 qualified watch hours in the past year, or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days
- Shorts requirement: Creators must maintain 10 million qualified Shorts views per rolling 90-day period to keep earning from that format
- Existing members: Unaffected by the change; only new applicants face the higher thresholds
- Also expanding: YouTube Premium Lite subscription rolling out to all Premium-available countries
Why YouTube Is Raising The Bar
YouTube cited its scale, more than 200 billion daily Shorts views and over 1 billion daily connected-TV watch hours, saying the changes are designed to increase overall creator earnings in 2027 by concentrating monetization among more established channels.
