Spotify To Label AI-Generated Artist Profiles With 'AI Persona' Badges
Ad Tribe Editorial1 min read

Spotify will begin adding "AI Persona" badges to artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities, starting mid-September 2026.
- Where badges appear: Artist profile banners, About sections, search results and track rows within playlists
- Disclosure: Since August 11, artists can voluntarily disclose an AI Persona status through Spotify for Artists; Spotify will also review profiles using photorealistic AI-generated imagery
- Process: Profiles identified by Spotify's review team are notified and can self-disclose or appeal
- Discovery impact: AI Persona profiles are excluded by default from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless a listener already follows the artist
Identity, Not Production Process
Spotify said the badge applies to an artist's public identity rather than the production process behind individual songs, meaning a human artist using generative AI tools to make music would not automatically receive an AI Persona badge. The company said the move follows growing listener concern over profiles that appear to represent real musicians but are built around AI-generated personas, though it stops short of restricting AI-generated music itself.
