Kunal Soni Elevated To MD, APAC Android Partnerships At Google

Kunal Soni has been elevated to Managing Director, APAC Android Partnerships at Google, moving from the Google Play side of the business to lead Android partnerships across the Asia Pacific region.
- New role: Managing Director, APAC Android Partnerships at Google
- Previous role: Director, Google Play, APAC Scaled Business and Partner Ecosystem
- Tenure: with Google since April 2011
- Scope: carrier and OEM partnerships across Asia Pacific
From App Ecosystems To The Platform Layer
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Soni described the shift as a move from mobile apps, games and digital content to the Android platform itself, writing that he was excited to start a new journey leading Android Partnerships in the Asia Pacific region.
He added that it had been a privilege nurturing an ecosystem of app businesses and partners on Google Play over the years, and that he now looks forward to working with carrier and OEM partners to drive the next generation of mobile experiences.
The distinction matters. His previous remit sat with the developers and businesses building on Google Play. The new one sits a layer beneath, with the telecom operators and device manufacturers who determine how Android actually reaches users across the region, which in markets like India is where the volume is decided.
