What Karun Arora Will Run
Two things that are usually separate. The brief covers brand positioning and product consideration on one side, and data-led capability through customer data platforms, CRM, marketing automation and personalisation on the other, plus product narratives, launch communications and integrated PR.
Putting brand and marketing technology under one vertical head is a structural choice rather than a tidy one, and it says the company wants the people who build the audience to be the people who hold the data about it.
The Route Here
Nearly five years at vivo India, joining in November 2021 as general manager and head of marketing communications and becoming chief marketing communications officer in February 2026. Before that came more than five years at Dentsu Impact, progressing from general manager to associate vice president and then senior vice president.
The earlier agency years run through McCann Worldgroup, Dentsu and DDB Mudra Group, on brands including Dettol, Mastercard, Coca-Cola, Honda Cars, Dulux and Skype.
Why A Handset Marketer Fits A Car Company
Because the purchase behaves similarly. Both are considered, high-value and researched largely online before anyone walks into a showroom, and both live or die on launch moments that have to work across paid, owned and retail at once.
Arora announced the move recalling an i10 bought in 2007 as a first car, describing the arrival as a full-circle moment, and thanked Tarun Garg, Virat Khullar and the Hyundai leadership team.
The product side of the brief is where the two disciplines meet in practice: product narratives, launch communications and integrated PR across the portfolio, all of which depend on knowing which audience is being reached and on what evidence.
