Can AI Reduce The Friction Between Creative Teams And Clients?

Ad Tribe Editorial2 min read
Two characters on either side of a gap, one placing a smooth plank across it to connect them

A lot of the tension between creative teams and clients has always come from the gap between a note being given and a note being seen. AI has closed that gap. It has not closed every source of friction that came with it.

Some of the oldest friction in the agency-client relationship comes from delay: a client gives a note, waits days to see it applied, and by the time the revision arrives, the context of the original conversation has faded, sometimes on both sides. AI has made it possible to visualise a change on the spot, in the room, turning what used to be an asynchronous, occasionally tense back-and-forth into something closer to a real-time conversation. That alone has removed a real and long-standing source of frustration.

Where the friction genuinely eases

Real-time visualisation lets a creative team and a client stay in the same conversation instead of restarting it with every revision cycle. A client can say "what if the tone were warmer" and see a rough version of that immediately, rather than waiting for a formal revision that may or may not have interpreted the note correctly. Misunderstandings get caught and corrected in minutes instead of surviving an entire production cycle, which removes a lot of the friction that used to come specifically from delayed, imperfect translation of client intent.

Where AI creates a different kind of friction

The complication is that instant visualisation can quietly reframe how a client sees the creative process itself, from a craft that takes time and judgment to a series of buttons that should produce an acceptable result on demand. A client who gets used to seeing instant AI-assisted changes can start expecting every request, including ones that genuinely need real creative reconsideration rather than a quick visual tweak, to arrive just as fast. When a creative team pushes back on a request because it actually needs more thought, that pushback can now read as friction rather than as the craft doing its job, precisely because AI has made everything else feel instant.

AI removed the friction of waiting. It didn't remove the fact that some notes genuinely need more than a quick redo.

What keeps this net positive

The relationships getting real value from this are the ones where the creative team uses AI's speed for what it is good at, quick visual iteration, while still being clear and confident when a request needs actual creative reconsideration rather than an instant tweak. That distinction, said out loud rather than assumed, is what keeps AI's real friction reduction from quietly training clients to undervalue the craft that still takes real time.
