What Samarjit Singh Brings To Branded Content

Singh said he was happy to share that he was starting as chief revenue officer for branded content at Republic World.

The route here is unusual and useful. Eight years running the commercial side of afaqs! and a spell at Storyboard18 mean he has spent most of a decade selling to the exact people who now buy branded content, and watching how agencies and brands actually decide what a trade partnership is worth.

Why The Title Is Specific

The role is chief revenue officer for branded content rather than for the newsroom’s advertising as a whole.

That separation reflects how news broadcasters are having to earn now. Spot advertising against news inventory is a mature and pressured business; branded content is sold on a different basis, closer to a production commission than a media buy, and it needs someone who can price a bespoke idea rather than a rate card.

The Startup Detour

His most recent years ran through Ekaaya Network, AI in Action and Mad Influence rather than a large media house.

Influencer marketing and AI ventures are where the branded content conversation has actually been happening, and a broadcaster hiring back from that world is buying an understanding of the formats clients now expect. The question a big newsroom always faces on such a hire is whether the operating rhythm of a startup survives contact with a broadcast sales floor.
