What Canva Is Buying
Not a media placement. Embedding a tool inside a textbook series is distribution of the most durable kind, because the software becomes the way a skill is taught rather than one option for practising it.
Eight school years is also a long exposure. A student who learns to lay out a poster in a particular tool at Grade 3 arrives at Grade 8 with a default.
What OUP Gets
A practical component in a subject that is otherwise taught on paper. Computer science in Indian schools has a persistent gap between syllabus and machine time, and a browser-based tool with school licensing is a cheaper answer to it than software installation.
The teacher training attached to it matters as much as the licence. A tool that arrives in a school without anyone confident enough to set an assignment in it tends to go unused, whatever the curriculum says.
What Was Said
Sukanta Das, managing director of Oxford University Press India, said embedding Canva into the curriculum empowers students to think like creators from an early age, using technology to imagine, design and bring their ideas to life. Megan Townes, APAC lead for Canva Education, said the company was thrilled to bring together OUP's educational content and Canva's visual communication tools.
