Musk Will Rename SpaceXAI To SpaceXSI

Elon Musk has said SpaceX will rename its artificial intelligence unit from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. Asked about the change by a user on X, Musk replied that the company would make it.
- The change: SpaceXAI becomes SpaceXSI, replacing artificial with super
- What prompted it: Donald Trump's push to retire the term artificial intelligence in favour of super intelligence
- Where that was said: a UN General Assembly speech last month, in which Trump said all United States documents would from that point use the more accurate term super rather than artificial
- Timeline given: none
- Status at publication: the SpaceXAI account on X was unchanged, and SpaceX had not responded to requests for comment
Why A Rename To SpaceXSI Is Not A Small Thing
Because artificial intelligence is not a brand name, it is a category. Renaming a product is routine; aligning a product name with an attempt to rename the whole category is a bet that the attempt succeeds, and that bet is being placed by the most-watched technology company in the field.
Categories do shift when enough weight is put behind a word. They also calcify, and a firm whose name no longer matches the words buyers search for spends years explaining itself.
What It Means For Anyone Writing Marketing Copy
Not much yet, and that is the point. Artificial intelligence remains the term the market, the search index and the procurement document all use, so switching house style now would cost clarity to gain nothing.
Worth watching rather than acting on. If the term does move in official usage, it moves in regulation and tender language first, which is where a brand would feel it before any consumer did.
The Part Worth Reading Twice
Nobody has confirmed a date. Musk said the change would be made and gave no timeline, SpaceX has not commented, and the account carrying the old name is still carrying it, which is the whole of the evidence so far.
