Meta Publishes A Playbook For Micro Drama Platforms

Meta has published a solutions playbook for micro drama platforms. It was released at FICCI Frames in Mumbai on 30 September and covers audience acquisition, engagement, monetisation and advertising.
- Audience split in the playbook: 39 per cent incidental viewers, 43 per cent intent-building, 18 per cent high intent
- Willingness to pay: among paying viewers, 32 per cent would pay small amounts to unlock the next episode and 31 per cent would pay more for a full show
- Recommended approach: in-app purchases and advertising together, with personalised recommendations, re-engagement and WhatsApp-led communication
- Kuku TV results cited: Advantage+ campaigns delivered 1.6 times higher return on ad spend, 29 per cent lower cost per subscription and 16 per cent lower cost per install
- Creative finding cited: adding static images to video Reels ads cut cost per click by 38 per cent and lifted conversions by 21 per cent
- Other platforms cited: Hoichoi's Sooper at 20 per cent higher purchase volume and 35 per cent lower cost per conversion, and HubX DramaTV at 28 per cent more incremental subscriptions
Why A Micro Drama Playbook Exists At All
Because the category grew faster than the buying knowledge around it. A format barely two years old now has platforms spending at scale with no established benchmarks, and the party with the most data about how those viewers behave is the one selling the inventory.
What The Segmentation Actually Says
That four in five viewers did not come looking. Only 18 per cent are described as high intent, which makes this an interruption business rather than a destination one, and explains why the recommended mix leans on re-engagement rather than acquisition alone.
It also explains the WhatsApp recommendation. A viewer who arrived incidentally has no habit to return to, so the platform has to create the occasion.
What Was Said
Rishad Chindamada, head of media and entertainment for India at Meta, said micro dramas have moved quickly from a new content format to a category with real audience and business potential. Vinod Kumar Meena, co-founder and chief operating officer of Kuku TV, called micro dramas the fourth wave of entertainment.
