JSW Sports has become the commercial partner for the Hong Kong Sixes, in an exclusive arrangement with Cricket Hong Kong, China. It is the company's first commercial partnership with an international sporting property.

  • Partner: Cricket Hong Kong, China
  • Property: the Hong Kong Sixes
  • Role: commercial partner, covering the commercial and marketing side of the tournament
  • Focus: global footprint, fan engagement, and commercial opportunities across sponsorship, broadcast and brand partnerships
  • Standing: JSW Sports' first move into international sporting intellectual property

Why JSW Sports Is Doing This Now

Until now the company's work has sat in two places: managing domestic leagues and representing athletes. Both are Indian businesses. Taking the commercial mandate for a tournament in Hong Kong is a different proposition, because the revenue has to come from sponsors and broadcasters who are not buying Indian audiences by default.

The Sixes is a sensible property to try it on. Short-format, six-a-side, played over a weekend, it is built for broadcast and for a travelling audience rather than for a domestic league calendar. That makes the global footprint ambition a realistic brief rather than a stated one.

What The Partnership Actually Covers

The two organisations will work together across the commercial and marketing aspects of the tournament, with sponsorship, broadcast and brand partnerships named as the areas to develop. In practice that means JSW Sports is selling the event, not running it.

For an Indian sports business, owning the commercial rights to an overseas property is a route to relationships with regional sponsors that a domestic league cannot reach. More sports and sponsorship news.
