Freyr Energy has named Rohit Sharma as its first brand ambassador. The residential rooftop solar company launched the campaign "Solar Ho, Toh Freyr Ho!" alongside the announcement.

  • Ambassador: Rohit Sharma, India's World Cup-winning cricket captain, and the company's first
  • Campaign: Solar Ho, Toh Freyr Ho!, launched 30 September 2026
  • Argument: a rooftop solar system is a thirty-year commitment, so the installer has to still be there
  • Company record: more than 20,000 solar systems designed, financed, installed and serviced across over 40 cities in a decade
  • Policy backdrop: PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for eligible households
  • Talent management: Rohit Sharma is managed exclusively by RISE Worldwide

What Freyr Energy Is Actually Selling

Survival. In residential solar the panel is largely a commodity and the differentiator is whether the company installing it will exist in fifteen years to honour the service commitment.

That is a difficult thing to advertise, because every competitor says it. Borrowing a reputation is one of the few ways to make the claim land before a customer has any way to test it.

Why A Cricketer For A Subsidy-Led Category

Because the government scheme has done the awareness work already. Households know rooftop solar exists and that support is available, which moves the marketing job from explaining the category to choosing within it.

At that stage the useful signal is trust rather than information, and a national figure supplies it faster than a product claim.

What Was Said

Co-founder and managing director Saurabh Marda said the aim has always been to raise the bar for what Indian homeowners can expect from rooftop solar. Co-founder and director Radhika Choudary said the company has to show up every time and stand behind a family's decision long afterwards. Marketing head Rajan Mahalingam said Rohit's reputation for consistency and trust mirrors what the company promises customers. Rohit Sharma said rooftop solar gives families a chance to do their bit for the planet, and that it matters to have a partner you can trust.
