Flutrr Stops Choosing Between Dating And Matrimony

flutrr has repositioned as The Love Marriage App, five years after launching as a relationship platform. The proposition is aimed at people who want to choose a partner themselves while keeping long-term commitment in view.
- Brand: flutrr, the Indian relationship platform
- New positioning: The Love Marriage App
- New tagline: flutrr, The Love Marriage App. Know Where It's Going
- The gap it names: open-ended dating where intent is unclear, against traditional matrimony where marriage is settled before two people have met properly
- Product changes: fewer and more curated people to discover, more intentional conversations, greater emphasis on compatibility
- Compatibility inputs: birth details and Vedic astrology, used as part of discovery
- Trust and safety: Aadhaar verification at onboarding, and a Moments feature for discovery beyond daily recommendations
- On family: users choose when to involve family rather than family defining the process from the start
- Founded: 2021, by the father and son Kaushik Banerjee and Anirban Banerjee
Why The Gap flutrr Is Naming Is A Real One
Because the two existing categories ask opposite questions. A dating app asks who you like and refuses to ask what for; a matrimony site asks what for before you have met anyone, and sorts by criteria a family supplied.
The market between them is large and badly served. Plenty of people want to choose for themselves and still end up married, and at present they have to use one product dishonestly or two products at once.
What The Product Decisions Say About The Positioning
That the metric is changing. Showing fewer profiles is a deliberate reduction in the engagement a dating app is normally optimised for, and it only makes sense if the number being measured is the quality of a match rather than time in the feed.
Letting the user decide when family enters is the sharper move. It is the single thing that separates the two incumbent categories, and making it a setting rather than a structure is the clearest expression of the positioning in the product.
What Was Said
Anirban Banerjee, interim chief executive and co-founder, said the company is building a platform that is neither a conventional matrimonial service nor an open-ended relationship marketplace, and that love and marriage do not have to be two separate journeys. Kaushik Banerjee, co-founder and managing director, said people are not confused about wanting love but are looking for clarity on where the other person wants it to go. On family, the company said the choice can start with the user and family can join when they are ready.
