X Moves US Creator Payouts Onto Its Own Money Platform

X has moved all United States creator payouts onto X Money, its in-house payments service, replacing the Stripe-powered system that handled them before. The change took effect on 2 September.
- Covers: the Original Content Rewards Program and creator subscriptions, for US-based creators
- Effective: 2 September, replacing Stripe
- Claimed benefit: earnings accessible as soon as payouts are issued, removing the multi-day Stripe settlement
- Requirement: creators must be Premium or Premium+ subscribers, and resident in states where X Payments LLC holds the necessary licences
- Outside the US: creators continue to be paid through Stripe
The X Money Condition Is The Story
Faster settlement is a real improvement and easy to describe. The part worth reading twice is that access to X Money requires a Premium or Premium+ subscription, and a company representative confirmed the transition is mandatory for US creators.
Put those together and the platform has made being paid conditional on being a paying subscriber. Payouts through X Money also count toward the direct deposit requirements for the higher savings rate available to Premium subscribers, which pulls creators further into the financial product rather than the publishing one.
The Wider Rebuild
This lands in the middle of a broader reshaping of X's creator monetisation. The Creator Revenue Sharing Program is due to be fully retired on 7 September and replaced by the Original Content Rewards Program.
The licence condition is the practical limit. X Money is only available where X Payments LLC holds the necessary regulatory licences, so a mandatory US-wide switch will land unevenly by state until that coverage is complete. More from ad tech.
