What Treina Campos Takes Across The Table
A dozen years at one agency is long enough to have run communications for a wide spread of categories, and long enough to know exactly how an in-house team sounds when it is briefing badly. That is the practical advantage of the move: the new brief is one Campos has been on the receiving end of for years.
Campos describes the work as making brands connect, and says the experience has taught a single lesson, that iconic companies are built with the gumption to dream big.
Why This Category Is A Specific Discipline
Communications for a brewer is not general corporate communications with different products. Alcohol marketing in India is constrained by surrogate advertising rules, state by state variation in what may be sold and said, and a permanent public conversation about responsible consumption.
Most of the brand building has to happen through channels that are not advertising, which puts communications closer to the centre of the marketing function here than it sits in almost any other category.
Agency To Client Is Not A Small Step
The move changes the job even when the subject stays the same. An agency lead advises and departs; an in-house lead owns the outcome, carries it into a leadership meeting and lives with the version that survives legal review.
Campos marked the move with a line about brewing conversations and connections that build a future with more cheers. More people moves.
