Rohan Chincholi, chief client and AI officer at Havas Media Network India

Havas Media Network India has appointed Rohan Chincholi chief client and AI officer, moving its chief digital officer into a role that pairs client success with AI innovation.

  • Has spent a decade and a half at Havas, from media planning to running digital across west and south India, then nationally
  • The new role sits at what the company calls the intersection of client success and AI innovation
  • Credits mentorship from Rana Barua, and thanks Mohit Joshi and Vandana Tilwani
  • An electrical engineer from MIT Manipal, with an MBA from WeSchool Mumbai
  • Also studied cyber law and holds a Georgia State University certification in brand management

What The Rohan Chincholi Appointment Signals

Chief AI officer titles have multiplied across advertising and media over the past 18 months. Pairing one with client leadership is rarer.

The message is aimed at clients rather than at the org chart. Media networks have spent two years talking about generative AI transforming planning, buying and creative work, mostly from a technology function nobody outside the building meets. Putting AI ownership in the same seat as the client relationship says it is meant to show up in the work rather than in a capability deck.

Why The Background Fits

An electrical engineering degree, an MBA, a spell studying cyber law and a brand management certification give him a record across the technical and commercial sides.

Cyber law is the unexpected entry and possibly the most relevant. The live questions around AI in advertising are increasingly about rights, consent and liability rather than capability, and those are the conversations a client will want answered before signing off a campaign built with the tools.

The Test

Havas is betting that clients want AI strategy at the same table as account management.

Whether that pays off shows up in retained billings and new business rather than in the announcement. The structure is a sound bet on where the industry is heading; the proof is whether an AI-led pitch wins an account that a conventional one would have lost.
