Prashant V Singh Joins HT Media As Editor And Head Of Livemint

HT Media Group has appointed Prashant V Singh as editor and head of Livemint and Livemint Hindi, putting both mastheads under one editor.
- New role: editor and head, Livemint and Livemint Hindi, HT Media Group
- Previously: deputy executive editor, Business Today, India Today Group
- Before that: senior editor, business, at Times Network, running digital for ET NOW and ET NOW Swadesh
- Earlier: Zee Business, The Financial Express, Network18/CNN-IBN, DB Corp, IndiaMART and Doordarshan News
- Close to two decades in business journalism
The Brief Prashant V Singh Has Described
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Singh set out a mandate covering editorial strategy across digital and emerging formats and reader engagement across web, app, video and events, with the aim of serving a business audience that is now digital first.
The phrasing is worth reading closely. Video and events sit in the same sentence as the website, which is a growth remit as much as an editorial one.
Two Mastheads, Two Different Problems
Livemint and Livemint Hindi are not the same publication in two languages. English business news in India competes with a crowded field and a readership that also reads international titles. Hindi business news is competing mostly for readers who did not previously read business news at all.
Running both from one desk means deciding how much is shared and how much is commissioned separately, and that is a resourcing question before it is an editorial one.
The Pattern In The Record
At Times Network he led digital for ET NOW and ET NOW Swadesh, working on television and digital integration, interviews, video formats and audience growth. The same theme runs through the earlier stops: building digital operations inside organisations whose main product was something else.
That is a specific skill, and it is not the same as running a newsroom that was digital from the start. It usually means arriving where a print or broadcast operation already sets the rhythm and changing the rhythm without stopping the output.
