Marie Claire India returns in early 2027 with Neena Haridas as editor-in-chief and chief executive, partnered with Kaalish and Co

Marie Claire India launches in the first quarter of 2027, with Neena Haridas taking the title as both editor-in-chief and chief executive.

  • Title: Marie Claire India
  • Launch: first quarter of 2027
  • Leadership: Neena Haridas, editor-in-chief and chief executive
  • Publishing partner: Kaalish and Co Publications Pvt Ltd, Kochi
  • Partner lead: Venu Gopalakrishnan, founder-publisher

The Marie Claire India Appointment Is The Story

Haridas edited the title in India from 2010 to 2013, and returns holding the business as well as the pages. That combination is rare in Indian magazine publishing, where the editor and the publisher have traditionally been two people with different incentives and a standing argument between them.

Collapsing both into one seat removes that argument and concentrates the risk. It also means the editorial proposition and the revenue model have to be designed at the same time rather than negotiated afterwards, which is the only sane way to launch a magazine brand now.

Not Billed As A Print Revival

Haridas described the launch as deeply personal but framed the opportunity as reimagining what the title can be in India today, saying the ambition is not simply bringing a magazine to a new market but creating a living, evolving world that readers can enter, experience and engage with.

The stated aim is international in outlook, unmistakably Indian in perspective, and relevant wherever and however the audience chooses to connect. The language is deliberate: this is being set up as a brand with a publishing arm rather than a magazine with extensions.

Kochi, Not Mumbai Or Delhi

Gopalakrishnan, founder-publisher of Kaalish and Co, described India as an opportunity to rethink the relationship between media and audiences, and named editorial excellence, intelligent technology and audience understanding as the three pieces.

Jean de Boisdeffre, executive director of Marie Claire International, called the partner's vision a reflection of the brand's own evolution. The detail worth marking is the base: a licensed international title run out of Kochi rather than the usual two cities is itself a departure.
