Mahendra Chaturvedi Leaves LexisNexis For Legal AI At Lexlegis

Mahendra Chaturvedi has joined Lexlegis.ai as senior vice president of sales, moving from LexisNexis where he was director of sales. He arrives with around 30 years in India's legal information and publishing sector.

  • Role: senior vice president, sales, at legal artificial intelligence company Lexlegis.ai
  • From: LexisNexis, director of sales since April 2018
  • Experience: around 30 years across institutional, channel and enterprise sales in legal information
  • Earlier: more than a decade at Thomson Reuters, rising to assistant vice president of sales, and a spell at Newgen KnowledgeWorks
  • Remit: sales and customer engagement across law firms, in-house legal teams, professional services firms and institutional users

Why Mahendra Chaturvedi Is An Interesting Hire Here

His career is almost a complete map of how legal research has been sold in India. He started at LexisNexis in 2003 as regional manager for sales, spent from 2006 to 2017 at Thomson Reuters moving through national sales manager and senior sales manager to assistant vice president, went to Newgen KnowledgeWorks, then returned to LexisNexis in 2018.

Those are the incumbents. A legal AI company hiring the person who sold against it for two decades is buying the relationships and, more usefully, the objections. He knows exactly what a managing partner says when asked to change research tools, because he has heard it from the other side.

Building A Field Organisation

Alongside leading the sales function, his brief includes building the company's field sales organisation as it expands its enterprise business. That is the harder half. Legal software in India is sold in person, firm by firm, and a field team is expensive to build and slow to become productive.

He has been based in the Delhi region for most of his career, which matters in a market where the buying centres are concentrated. More appointments.
