Kunal Sharma has joined BBDO Group India as vice president, moving to the network after two years at Cheil India.

  • New role: vice president, BBDO Group India
  • Previously: general manager, Cheil India, from March 2024, based in Gurugram
  • Before that: MagicCircle Communications, as associate vice president from May 2018 and vice president and servicing head from September 2021
  • Earlier: associate vice president at ADK, and client services director at Publicis India from July 2015 to September 2017
  • PGDBA in marketing from Sardar Patel University; BJMC from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

The Shape Of Kunal Sharma’s Record

Read as a sequence, this is a career spent almost entirely in client servicing and brand stewardship rather than in creative or planning. Publicis India, ADK, MagicCircle and Cheil are four very different shops, and the constant across them is the same function.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Sharma said he was looking forward to working with the agency’s talent and learning from the industry’s leading minds, which is the conventional note. The record underneath it is more specific than the phrasing suggests.

The Independent Stretch In The Middle

The six years at MagicCircle Communications are the part that separates this from a straight network career. He arrived as an associate vice president and left as vice president and servicing head, which means he owned the servicing function rather than a slice of it.

Independent shops hand that responsibility over earlier and with less scaffolding than networks do. Someone who has run servicing without a global process manual behind them tends to arrive with a different instinct about which parts of the process actually protect the work.

What The Hire Says About BBDO’s Bench

BBDO’s reputation in India was built on creative product, and creative networks periodically rediscover that the product does not survive contact with a badly held client relationship. Strengthening the business side is the less visible half of protecting the work.

Whether that is what this appointment is for will show in what he is given to hold rather than in the title. Vice president covers a wide range in Indian agencies, and the brief matters more than the band.
