Karthik Anantha Subramanian, taking charge of fiction for the south at the streaming service Sun NXT

Karthik Anantha Subramanian has joined Sun NXT as head of fiction for the south, starting in September 2026 and working from Chennai after five years with JioStar.

  • Joins from: JioHotstar, where the role was executive producer from August 2021

What Karthik Anantha Subramanian Has Shipped

At JioHotstar the output ran to more than ten shows, among them Heartbeat, Label, Parachute, LBW, Good Wife and Nadu Center. For a platform building a fiction slate, a producer who has actually delivered that many titles is a more useful hire than one with a stronger reputation and a thinner release list.

The writer, producer and director background matters in the same practical way. Commissioning is easier when the person reading a script has written one and knows which problems get fixed in the edit and which do not.

Three Languages Is The Hard Part

Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam are three of the most closely watched streaming markets in India, and they are not one market with three dubs. Each has its own star system, its own production economy and its own sense of what a streaming show should feel like next to its cinema.

Running fiction across all three means holding three slates at once, each with a different set of relationships, and deciding where a finite budget goes when all three have a case.

Why The Timing Is Interesting

Karthik wrapped a five year stint and was running the slate at Sun NXT within weeks, describing the energy three weeks into the job as amazing. A platform that moves that quickly on a senior content hire is usually a platform with a slate it needs filled on a schedule.
