Marketing an agency, which is a harder brief than it sounds. A company whose product is other people's attention has to be visible enough to be credible and restrained enough not to look like it is spending client budget on itself.
He cited the creative team and the culture being built there as reasons for the move.
Why A Creative Director In The Marketing Seat
Because in this category the marketing and the portfolio are the same asset. A meme-led shop is judged on output that is already public, so the marketing job is largely deciding what gets shown, in what order, and with what claim attached.
Someone who has made the work is better placed to make those calls than someone who has only packaged it.

Agencies appointing dedicated marketing leads is no longer unusual. It follows a period in which the founder was the entire marketing function for most independent shops, which scales badly once the company is large enough to need a position rather than a personality.
The move also continues a steady flow of senior creative people into roles that are not creative direction. Marketing, new business and content leadership are absorbing experienced hands from the craft side, largely because those jobs now decide what work the agency gets to make.
