JioStar Starts Its World Cup 2027 Build-Up With Rohit And Virat

JioStar has released a promotional film featuring Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, opening its build-up to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 with a conversation rather than a montage.
- Broadcaster: JioStar
- Featuring: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
- Conceptualised by: JioStar
- Closing line: "Desh ka sawaal hai, maza toh aayega"
- Next on air: India's three match ODI series against Sri Lanka, 13 to 19 December, live on Star Sports Network and streamed on JioHotstar
What The World Cup 2027 Film Actually Does
There is no cricket in it. The two sit and talk, reminiscing about their years with the Indian side, and at one point cheerfully recreate the signature celebrations of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and the captain Shubman Gill.
That is a confident choice for a tournament promo. The genre default is highlights cut to music, because highlights work without context. A conversation only works if the audience already knows the people well enough to enjoy watching them be themselves, which is the thing the film is quietly asserting about these two.
Why Start This Early
The tournament is more than a year away, which makes this unusually early for a World Cup campaign. The reason is in the schedule rather than the marketing: India's run to 2027 begins with Sri Lanka's tour in December, and every series between now and then is both a selection question and an inventory opportunity.
Starting the narrative now gives JioStar a thread to run through all of it, so each bilateral series becomes a chapter of the same story rather than a standalone broadcast to sell on its own.
The Subtext Is Who Might Not Be There
JioStar frames the tournament as potentially the last ICC World Cup campaign for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, with India targeting a fourth consecutive ICC title. That framing is doing a lot of work.
A farewell is a stronger reason to watch a dead rubber in February than a trophy is, because it has a deadline nobody controls. Whether either player is still in the side by 2027 is not something a broadcaster can promise, which is presumably why the film raises it in tone rather than in words.
The promo follows India's 2-1 series win over the West Indies. More campaigns.
