Hoopr Appoints Moushumi Chandra To Lead Its East India Business

Hoopr has appointed Moushumi Chandra as business head for East India, giving the music-tech platform a dedicated lead for a set of markets that rarely get their own line in a media plan.
- Role: business head, East, based in Kolkata
- Markets: West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and the North East
- Experience: more than 21 years across media, telecom and entertainment
- Previously: leadership roles at JioStar, Disney Star and Radio Mirchi
- Announced by: Gaurav Dagaonkar, co-founder and chief executive at Hoopr
What The Hoopr Brief Covers
Business growth and strategic partnerships across the east, with a remit that explicitly includes building new revenue streams across music, digital, technology and AI rather than only selling the existing catalogue.
That framing matters for a licensing business. Hoopr launched in 2021 and holds a library of more than 12,000 music tracks and sound effects for video, vlogs, podcasts, film, advertising and apps, alongside Hoopr Smash, its branded content licensing platform. A regional head whose targets are only catalogue sales manages a price list. One whose targets include new revenue lines is being asked to find out what the market actually wants.
Why The East Gets Its Own Head
The east is underserved relative to its output. Bengali, Odia, Assamese and Bhojpuri content industries produce continuously and license constantly, and much of that demand has historically been handled from Mumbai or Delhi by people covering several regions at once.
Chandra's record is built on exactly that market. A career spanning radio at Radio Mirchi and television at Disney Star and JioStar is a career spent selling to regional advertisers and regional broadcasters, which is a different relationship from selling a software subscription. Gaurav Dagaonkar announced the appointment on LinkedIn, framing it around the east's growth as a content and advertising market. More appointments.
