Gaurav Kaul Named Managing Director And CEO Of Cipla Health

Gaurav Kaul has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer of Cipla Health, moving across from Cipla's prescription business to run the group's consumer health and wellness operation.
- Role: managing director and CEO, Cipla Health Ltd
- Moves from: Cipla's prescription business, where he was the commercial lead
- Scale of that job: an organisation of more than 12,000 people and a business above Rs 15,000 crore
- On his watch: Cipla's India business moved from third place to second, while growing ahead of the market
- Earlier: close to eight years at GSK Consumer Healthcare India, across nutrition and pharmacy portfolios and sales integration
What Gaurav Kaul Ran Before This
The prescription business he is leaving is the larger of the two by a wide margin. He describes the India business advancing from the number three position to number two during his tenure while continuing to outperform industry growth, and the respiratory franchise is the part he singles out: its leading brand reached the top position in the Indian Pharmaceutical Market in 2025 and crossed Rs 1,000 crore in sales.
That is a specific kind of track record. Respiratory in India is a category fought on doctor preference, device familiarity and distribution depth rather than on advertising, and taking a brand to the top of the market there is an exercise in commercial discipline across a very large field force.
Consumer Health Is Not A Smaller Version Of The Same Job
The two businesses share a parent and almost nothing else operationally. A prescription business sells through the doctor: the customer who decides is not the customer who pays, and the work is detailing, medical evidence and chemist reach. Consumer health sells to the shopper directly, through modern trade, general trade and a quick commerce layer that did not meaningfully exist when most of today's senior pharma leaders learned the trade.
Brand building replaces detailing, media budgets replace field incentives, and the feedback loop shortens from quarters to weeks. Executives have moved between the two sides in both directions for years, and the ones who struggle tend to be those who treat consumer demand as a distribution problem with a marketing layer on top.
The GSK Years Are The Part That Matters
Which is why the eight years at GSK Consumer Healthcare India are the most load-bearing line in the announcement. He has already run senior roles on the consumer side, across nutrition and pharmacy portfolios and through a sales integration, so this is a return rather than a first attempt.
Cipla Health sits in a market where wellness, trusted brands and everyday accessibility are the stated growth drivers, and where the competition includes both pharma-owned consumer arms and pure FMCG companies with far deeper media habits. Kaul's own framing of the brief is building on the existing platform rather than rebuilding it. More leadership moves.
