Famous Studios, founded in 1946, is repositioning from a traditional production facility into an integrated business spanning the full content journey from concept to distribution.

  • Company: Famous Studios, founded 1946, described as Asia's first air-conditioned studio
  • Four divisions: Post-Production and VFX, Brand Solutions, Films and Original Content, and Digital Media
  • Services: creative development, production, VFX, CGI, editing, sound, colour grading, branded content, IP creation and digital-first content
  • Also: AI across concept development, visualisation, production and VFX, and expansion of its Ground Zero digital platform into YouTube Shorts
  • Offices: corporate operations moving to Santacruz, studio operations continuing at Andheri West
  • No investment figures have been disclosed

What Famous Studios Is Changing

What it sells. A studio facility rents time and space; an integrated business sells the outcome. Anant Roongta, managing director, said the content industry is moving towards greater integration, speed and creative collaboration, and that Famous has a role to play in shaping that shift.

The four-division structure is the substance of the announcement. Putting IP creation and branded content alongside post and VFX means the company is proposing to originate work rather than only execute it, which competes with the agencies and production houses that were previously its customers.

Why Eighty Years Is Relevant

Because facilities businesses age badly. A studio's value is in its floors, its kit and its craft, and all three get commoditised as production moves onto smaller cameras and cheaper software. The strategic answer is almost always to move up the chain into the parts clients cannot do themselves.

The Detail Worth Noting

Ground Zero moving into YouTube Shorts. A legacy studio building an owned digital platform and taking it into short form is a different bet from adding a VFX suite, and it is the line in the announcement that will take longest to prove.
