Excel Entertainment Launches Excel Music With Universal Music Group

Excel Entertainment has launched Excel Music, a dedicated label for film soundtracks, backed by Universal Music Group.
- Founders: Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, Excel Entertainment
- New label: Excel Music, for film soundtracks, scores and independent releases
- Partner: Universal Music Group, joining as a strategic shareholder and handling marketing and distribution
- First release: The soundtrack of Mirzapur: The Movie, arriving in cinemas September 4, 2026
A Label Built On An Existing Investment
Universal Music Group joins Excel Music as a strategic shareholder, extending a relationship that began when UMG first took a stake in Excel Entertainment. Under the new label, UMG will also manage marketing and distribution, giving Excel Entertainment's music output a global distribution partner rather than relying on soundtrack deals negotiated project by project.
Excel Music's first release will be the soundtrack of Mirzapur: The Movie, due in cinemas on September 4, 2026. The album's first track features Haryanvi musician Dhanda, marking his entry into Hindi cinema.
Beyond Excel's Own Films
The label will house original soundtracks and scores from Excel Entertainment's own forthcoming projects, and is also positioned to release music connected to films made by other filmmakers and production companies in India, extending Excel's business beyond production and into a standing music catalogue.
