DoubleVerify Starts Measuring What ChatGPT Ads Do

A measuring tape and a speech bubble, as halftone cutouts, for DoubleVerify bringing ChatGPT Ads into attribution

DoubleVerify has brought ChatGPT Ads into its attribution measurement. Advertisers can now assess what the channel contributes across the customer journey and measure return on ad spend.

  • The product: DV Rockerbox, the company's attribution measurement tool
  • What is new: ChatGPT Ads as a measurable channel inside it
  • What it answers: the contribution of the channel across the customer journey, and return on ad spend
  • Case cited: Weight Watchers used it to measure ChatGPT Ads for member acquisition
  • The result claimed: an attributed cost per acquisition 15.3% below the company's established benchmark during the measured period
  • Also announced: a brand risk and suitability evaluation pilot with OpenAI for conversational environments
  • The constraint stated: context is evaluated without accessing private user conversations

Why DoubleVerify Measuring It Is What Makes It A Channel

Because a budget line needs a number next to it. Advertisers have been able to buy ChatGPT inventory before they could prove what it returned, and media plans do not scale on curiosity, they scale on a cost per acquisition someone will sign off.

The Weight Watchers figure is the whole pitch in one data point. A cost per acquisition 15.3% under benchmark is the kind of result that moves a test budget into a line item, and it is also a single advertiser over one period, which is worth holding lightly.

Why Brand Suitability Here Is A Genuinely New Problem

Because the page does not exist until the user asks for it. Classical brand safety reads a fixed article and decides whether an ad belongs beside it; a conversation generates its context live, shaped by the question, the answer and everything said before.

That breaks the existing tooling rather than stretching it. Pre-bid classification has nothing to classify, which is why the announcement is a pilot with the platform rather than a product on the shelf.

What Was Said

Mark Zagorski, chief executive of DoubleVerify, said advertisers want to understand not just whether a new channel is performing but the business impact it is driving, and separately that conversational environments are fundamentally different because context is dynamic. Jake Dmochowski, vice president of growth at Weight Watchers, said DV Rockerbox helped put ChatGPT Ads performance into context alongside existing investments.
