What Dhruv Vohra Brings From The Long Tail

Because Southeast Asia is where Meta's revenue is least concentrated in large advertisers. The region runs on a long tail of small merchants selling through messaging and social commerce, and the commercial job is managing millions of small relationships rather than a few hundred big ones.

Someone who spent seven years inside that layer is being promoted into the thing he already understands, which is less common in platform appointments than it sounds.

What Messaging Means Commercially Here

More than it does in most markets. In Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam a sizeable share of transactions begin and end in a chat window, which makes messaging an actual sales channel rather than a support one, and makes advertising that opens a conversation the dominant format.

That also shapes what AI has to do there. The useful application is not creative generation but handling the volume of conversations a small merchant cannot answer alone, which is a different product pitch from the one Meta makes to large advertisers in the West.

What Was Said

Benjamin Joe said Vohra has spent seven years close to those businesses and that he is the right person for this next phase.
